You're likely aware that GTA V is now available for free, but I've observed occasional performance drops when playing on high or medium settings. Despite having specs above the recommended range—GTX 970, 16 GB RAM, 1600 MHz, i5 3570K—I still notice lag spikes.

I've encountered a comparable issue but with specs just above the minimum. I'm using integrated graphics, and the game becomes unresponsive after about 15 minutes. It's freezing and crashes when I try to play other titles. The problem seems to affect performance significantly.

Start by reducing your settings slightly, even if your PC exceeds the suggested limits it may not be optimal for smooth high-performance operation

@bengeoghegan11 performs identical actions on Medium Direct X10, producing results that are slightly below optimal and appear unsatisfactory.

GTA offers choices for Direct X 11 and 12. You can test them out. Are you playing GTA Online too? Current high demand might be affecting performance.

Are you familiar with the GeForce Experience app? If you are, test it to adjust GTA 5 to its suggested optimal configurations.
