I switched to Windows and tried formatting the drive where SteamOS was installed, but it didn’t work. Now I’m stuck using GRUB and need advice on restoring it without reinstalling Windows.

Consider starting the system directly from the BIOS setup. This should allow you to access the Linux partition without needing to use GRUB.

It seems there are multiple approaches to resolve the issue, based on your priorities.

I'm about to attempt that, just holding off until the windows are ready on my USB drive.

I followed the same steps you mentioned. I excluded GRUB and downloaded Windows 8 or 10 from another machine. Used Rufus to write the ISO onto a USB drive. After booting from the USB, went through Troubleshooting, then opened Command Prompt and ran: Bootrec /fixmbr. This allowed Windows to start without Ubuntu’s GRUB. You can now reinstall Ubuntu again.
