Hi everyone, just started building my first machine in about eight years and trying to push it overclocked. The Derau8 guide helped a lot since it used the same motherboard and processor as before. I'm a bit puzzled. My setup includes an i9 9900K, ASUS Maximus XI Hero Wi-Fi, 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 RAM, and an RTX2080 graphics card. I'm running the CPU at 5GHz, but it drops to around 4.8GHz when using AVX applications. The manual voltage is set to 1.28V and everything seems stable in Prime95 and Cinebench R20. My main concern is whether lowering the voltage could harm the CPU or if I'm misinterpreting the benchmarks and settings. Temperatures stay well below 75°C. Thanks, Steve.
It seems the rating decreased after reducing voltage. Occasionally, lowering voltage causes transistors to fail. Even with enough transistors, the PC might still run normally, but this is where lower ratings originate. Memory overclocking can boost scores by 30-50 points based on frequency. Enhancing the cache will also help raise the score. Overall, your rating isn't terrible—just not outstanding. You're barely starting to warm up.
I suggest increasing the VCore a little and observe the results. 75°C is comfortable but not extremely hot. Reaching 95°C shouldn't be problematic. Boosting RAM speed, adjusting timings, or both could help. I recommend checking out "Actually Hardcore Overclocking" if you haven't tried it yet—it offers a fresh take on the topic.
My result improved slightly when I lowered the voltage from 1.29 to 1.28, which feels unexpected. This makes me reconsider my approach. My goal is a reliable long-term setup since I’ll be using it professionally, so I won’t push too hard. I also tried the AI optimizer, but it only ran at 5GHz on three cores with voltages above 1.3V and the system stayed in the 80s.
