I saw an article about an ASUS board featuring TUF gaming components and a reverse-mounted WiFi d4 motherboard. It suggests using a PCIe-facing design for better airflow, placing the GPU in the center while keeping space around the vias. The layout would act like a sandwich when the card is connected.

These boards needing reverse-side ports also come with exclusive cases.

With those MITX boards, you'd have cases built in. It would feel like a sandwich, but you wouldn't need any ribbon cables.

Understood. I see why you’re hesitant. It does appear neat, but you’ll be locked into that configuration until you replace the whole setup. You won’t be able to swap just the parts without buying a new motherboard and case together.

For mITX it would be great, having one PCIe port connecting to the other side of the MB. It's similar to placing the GPU under the MB using a ribbon cable—you could also position the GPU directly beneath the MB.

It bothers me a lot they didn’t add a GPU with PCIe power on the back.

We've encountered several ideas recently, though not all of them are tied to the 12VHPWR standard. It seems these updates weren't incorporated at the time.
