Great choice for the new AMD Ryzen 5 3600! It offers solid performance and value.
I noticed your build details There seems to be a new AMD Ryzen 5 added without any BIOS adjustments or updates. As shown, it matches the CPU found in your Amazon shipment. Were there problems with other motherboards or BIOS settings for this model? Thanks!
I'm testing 3200mhz 15-18-18 on a 3600 with an MSI B350 Gaming Pro Carbon. I think the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon would be better. My B350 can handle any RAM, but I managed to boot at 3600mhz. My RAM is DDR4 3000mhz. The other option is the Asus ROG Strix X470-F.
@cnelson3225 talks about the ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F without any major BIOS updates. @Slottr points out the MSI B450 tomahawk max, which is $10 more expensive but still worth considering. Both options have solid specs, but the main differences lie in price and possibly features. The decision hinges on whether you prioritize cost savings or additional performance upgrades. BIOS support and color preferences for the tomahawk are also factors to weigh.
Since you're running a Ryzen 3600, a X570 board seems more suitable. However, if you're on a tighter budget, a B450 or X470 would work fine. Make sure to check for a label indicating compatibility with the Ryzen 3000 series, as older BIOS versions might not recognize newer chips.
Tomahawk max is unlikely to require a bios upgrade, and it’s widely regarded as one of the top b450 models. There’s no need to purchase an x570 unless you’re targeting PCIe 4 or crossfire/sli
From those boards my choice goes to the tomahawk Max. Comes out of the box (though updating bios to the latest stable version is always a good idea) and features solid VRM heatsinks. The B450 tomahawk Max is the top pick for a reasonable price on a third-gen Ryzen without needing a X570 board.
All B450 MAX units come ready to use. Non-Max models require a BIOS upgrade to function with a 3xxx Ryzen. MSI products work well since they support BIOS flashback through USB. You won’t need an older Ryzen version for updates.
