Graphics ESD issue
Graphics ESD issue
I connected my computer, the monitor was attached to the extension cord and the PC to another extension cord on a different power source. While plugging in the HDMI cable to the GPU (Radeon RX 580 8GB), I saw tiny blue-white sparks at the end of the cable. They were almost invisible and didn’t leave any trace on the GPU or its shield. Could this affect the GPU? If so, what steps should I take to fix it without risking damage to the recently purchased PC?
Consider using a different HDMI cable or another HDMI port on the GPU if possible.
Sure, I’ll make sure to clarify that if this ever occurs again, you can be confident your GPU won’t be damaged over time.
It sits on a desk, and most of what I need is also placed on a desk or similar surfaces like wooden floors.
To avoid static electricity, discharge devices before connecting them. For example, use one hand to touch the outer part of the HDMI connector and the other hand on the metal side of your computer. If there’s a voltage difference between your monitor and PC, it may indicate an issue with the power outlet grounding.
