Graphics Card Problems Cause Computer Failure
Graphics Card Problems Cause Computer Failure
Let me start with my specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x
MOBO: MSI Arsenal Gaming Bazooka V2
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
SSD: SanDisk 120 GB
HDD: Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM
PSU: EVGA 500W 80 Plus
My issue: My PC won’t boot past the Windows logo, it’ll either freeze there, flash the logo and then reboot, or go to the “Preparing Automatic Repairs” screen and either immediately restart, freeze or blue screen. Occasionally, it’ll blue screen with stop codes “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”, “KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED”, or “SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED”
I know it’s not the mobo, cpu or hard drives because I’ve tried changing all of them, and looking up the stop codes they’re related to driver errors. Any help would be nice
Was this a fresh operating system installation? Or was the SSD transferred from another computer that had Windows on it?
I performed a fresh installation and assembled this computer some time ago.
I resolved the problem; it wasn’t the graphics card drivers causing the halt messages. A friend loaned me an older GPU, and I received another stop error linked to memory—after testing various slots, I continued to encounter the same issue, so I then attempted individual sticks and discovered one was defective. I am still uncertain why it initially presented GPU stop errors.
