I just acquired Grand Theft Auto 5 for single-player mode only. It isn’t GTA Online. I’m currently in the second heist at Paleto Bay. I have to wait a few months until my graphics card arrives, so I’m relying on my processor’s built-in graphics (still quite impressive, especially for integrated cards). All my configurations are set to the lowest level, yet I still experience frequent stuttering throughout. I understand this game is tough, but I suspect there’s a problem within the game itself rather than with my hardware, since many players with similar specs also encounter this issue. Raising the settings to Medium and 720p makes it playable again, though the game still freezes intermittently—not consistently. Here’s an example of what I’m seeing: (Watch from 0:45 to 1:30) P.S. I tried a workaround, but it didn’t help. (I also have the game on an SSD, but it doesn’t speed up loading or reduce lag noticeably compared to an HDD.)
The method they used to stream data is really poor. They added a patch that forced the CPU to decrypt the files being sent (something I noticed in Ill Gotten Gains Part II), which caused many older or weaker CPUs to struggle with streaming data.
