Gradual Awakening
You're experiencing sluggish performance after putting your Windows 8.1 system to sleep. The issue seems linked to how the OS handles wake events and lock screen transitions. Try checking if recent updates or driver changes might be affecting boot speed, and consider restarting in safe mode to rule out background processes.
It might be that after your computer shut down, some background jobs remained active and triggered the slow startup. Try ending all safe background processes (avoid things like windows.exe) and see if the issue persists.
This machine is fairly new. Apart from drivers, the only software installed are Adobe Creative Cloud, Steam, and Chrome. My primary application is a Mac, and this PC was designed mainly for gaming. There are many things I encounter on Windows 8.1 that I haven’t had to handle before. Also, I tend to shut down all programs before moving away from the computer. The only processes running in the background should be Steam and Adobe Creative Cloud, which makes sense. I don’t understand why that would cause a problem.
