Annoyed: After returning from vacation, my computer suddenly powers down hard when I export photos in Lightroom Classic. At first I thought it was a weird glitch, but now I realize GPU acceleration is the culprit. It seems the issue lies with the GPU, motherboard, or power supply. My setup includes: CPU – AMD Threadripper Pro 5975wx, RAM – 512GB 3200MHz, ECC, GPU – Asrock Creator WRX80 with Precision Boost Overdrive. Storage features a mix of NVMe drives and a PSU with multiple 8TB, 4TB, and 2TB SSDs. Under heavy load, the GPU triggers Over Current Protection, causing the whole system to shut down. The 4090 SSD works fine for benchmarks and games, but exports with GPU enabled lead to immediate shutdowns. This problem started this month. I’m trying to figure out whether the graphics card or power supply is at fault. The PSU is old but has held up well for eight years, so I’m leaning toward it. I’m hoping the issue is with the PSU and don’t want to replace parts yet, especially since the motherboard and 4090 were tricky to source. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's likely the PSU, as its age could have caused parts to wear out. Meanwhile, you can restrict your 4090's power usage—typically limiting it to about 70% will not significantly affect performance.

Installed a fresh Corsair AX1600i power supply. No shutdown on overclocking, OC scanner, or export settings. Everything is running smoothly. *deep breath*
