GPU issues during Hunt Showdown on Beam.ng and GTA V
In recent weeks I've experienced frequent crashes across multiple games. My system runs an Intel 4790k with an Asus Z97 board, a GTX 1070 8GB and 16GB RAM. Prior to instability, rendering speeds in games like Hunt Showdown were noticeably slow—objects loaded one by one while graphics faded. Eventually the game would freeze or display black, then crash entirely. After about a month, most titles became unresponsive, rendering textures at a glacial pace or shutting down completely. Even after a crash, background audio remained, but visuals stalled.
My MSI afterburner can push GPU temps up to 82°C with high power usage. Despite this, benchmarking tools fail at around 70°C on 1080x1920 resolution with maximum settings. For stress tests, performance holds, suggesting the CPU isn’t the problem. Games that didn’t suffer from graphical strain—like Minecraft, older Call of Duty titles, and Dead by Daylight—remain unaffected.
I suspect a failing power supply might be the culprit if peak wattage exceeds what my PSU can deliver. I own a Corsair Silver 750 watt unit, so that’s unlikely. My main 2 TB Windows drive has been nearly full for years, which could contribute to instability. The GTX 1070, purchased in July 2016, is nearing the end of its lifespan. If anyone knows recommended BIOS or boot settings to prolong my PC’s health, it would be invaluable. I’ve already reduced GPU clock speeds, but lowering power to 80% in MSI afterburner doesn’t stop crashes.
It seems the issue might be with the GPU or PSU. You often encounter strange problems when the power supply is failing. However, since the system is around 7 years old, regular use will eventually lead to failure.
The issue seems unrelated to power supply since consistent performance on Battlefield V suggests GPU strain rather than power problems. Less demanding titles like Unturned cause crashes only when unusual visual glitches appear. There’s no clear way to pinpoint the exact cause without deeper analysis. I’m open to having tech support examine my system, though I’m unsure if their expertise covers this specific scenario.
It seems like a potential GPU problem. Have you noticed this in other games, programs, or even just your computer? Based on what you said, it looks like asset loading is slowing down and then crashes occur. It might point to VRAM issues, especially if the PSU isn’t the main concern. The fact that BF V works fine makes it harder to pinpoint the exact cause.
