Preparing to issue a refund for this
Gigabyte Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 GPU
I’m facing issues because it doesn’t boot with my i7 920/EVGA X58 SLI LE LGA 1366 motherboard and an EVGA 1300W G3 Gold PSU. All other GPUs, like the XFX RX 7900XT, PNY RTX 4080 Super, EVGA RTX 3080Ti FTW3, Asus RTX 3080 TUFF, RTX 2080Ti XC, RTX 2080 Amp, Titan Xp, GTX 1080Ti STRIX, Titan X Pascal, Vega 64 Red Devil, GTX 980Ti MATRIX, etc., function properly on this system.
The RTX 5090 works well with my i9 10920X. On the i7 920 board, no BIOS appears; only two numbers keep cycling on the digital display.
Any suggestions?

It doesn't make sense to pair an RTX 5090 with an i7-920 in 2025. The RTX 5090 is a high-end graphics card, while the i7-920 is an older CPU from around 2012. Combining them would be outdated and inefficient.

It's enjoyable to observe its capabilities; impressive performance is clearly demonstrated with my RTX 3080Ti/4080 Super and RX 7900XT, particularly at 4K resolution.

I also own an X58 system running Rampage III Formula and an Xeon X5675 CPU.
I was thinking of purchasing an RTX 5090 but decided to test the old X58 setup until I came across your post.
I’m also wondering why it won’t boot. Could it be related to the GDDR7 memory module? I don’t find much more information online except for your message.
The RTX 4090 seems to work perfectly on the X58 system. There are YouTube videos and 3DMark results showing tests pairing the X58 with an RTX 4090 (rank number 1 in 3DMark Spy using the Xeon W3690 CPU).
Can someone clarify what changed about the RTX 5090?

X58 does not accept UEFI, a feature most modern GPUs now rely on via UEFI BIOS. The 4090 can handle both UEFI and VGA BIOS, which explains its compatibility with older x58 boards. On the other hand... AMD has revealed that its next RX 9070 series (RDNA 4) cards will need a UEFI system for best performance. In short, it has removed support for older BIOS and CSM versions, pushing users to adopt UEFI. However, this doesn't guarantee that RDNA 4 GPUs will work with outdated firmware, and AMD provides no guarantees.

Thanks for the response. It seems you're looking for custom VGA bios on these new cards to ensure compatibility with older systems like the X58. That would definitely be a challenge. Additionally, the high prices are another issue.

Anticipating new hardware with compatibility to an established platform may seem far-fetched.

I had the same thoughts about cars when they were released… they were too costly and I couldn’t just use hay to run them. It was absurd that they didn’t make the vehicle compatible with hay… but what options did you have?

I'm checking if the problem might stem from using an EVGA X58 motherboard, similar to the issues modern EVGA boards face with RTX 50 series cards.
