I've owned my PC for a few years, and about a year ago my GPU began acting up and would shut down. I explored various possibilities—GPU, power supply, case ventilation. All seemed reasonable. Fortunately, I had an older GPU that I could replace, and it completely resolved the problem. Now that I’ve removed the faulty GPU and taken off the fans (I think they were the issue), I’m wondering if there’s a way to check them. Unfortunately, I don’t have a suitable workspace and can’t see the fans while the card is inside the PC. My main concern is whether testing the fans would help; if they’re all working, it points to the card itself being the problem. On another note: the GPU I bought was installed from a PC build site. The installer put a lot of paste on it, and during disassembly I noticed it was pushing outward on all sides, almost touching pins. Could a weak installation have contributed to overheating as well? I recall the fans going into overdrive when things got hot, which makes me think they might be trying to cool the card.
