Hello! I’m experiencing a problem with my GPU (ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2080TI). Under load, one fan rapidly switches between very high RPM (around 100%) and the fan speed shown by the curve. In the screenshot labeled “GPU Fan 1,” you can see this behavior. When I manually set the fan speed to 60%, the RPM stays constant even when the GPU is idle, suggesting the issue isn’t with the cooler fans. However, during load, the RPM fluctuates between the curve’s output and full speed despite manual adjustment. Typically, it takes a moment for the system to stabilize before this starts. My setup includes: CPU – Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz, 8-core; Cooler – Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT 73.6 CFM; Motherboard – Gigabyte Z390 AORUS MASTER ATX; RAM – Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB; Storage – Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280; GPU – Asus GeForce RTX 2080 Ti; Case – Fractal Design R6 USB-C mid-tower; Power Supply – SeaSonic PRIME Ultra Titanium 650W; OS – Windows 10 Home. I have a few theories: the GPU might be ignoring the fan curve at certain temperatures, or maybe the hotspot reading isn’t typical. The GPU temperature stays around 105°C, which is high but not necessarily abnormal. It could be that the fan paste is degraded or the BIOS needs updating. I’m considering reapplying thermal paste or checking the BIOS settings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I eventually worked it out and thought it might help others. I discovered this discussion after sharing here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threa...wn.268465/. I re-applied thermal paste, and a large section of the chip looked unevenly covered when I took the cooler off my GPU. Temperatures dropped noticeably (from about 70°C to around 63°C on bulk temp, and hotspot from 105°C to ~85°C), which also fixed my fan speed issues.
