Hello everyone The fans on my GPU are now spinning at full speed without warning, sometimes just a few seconds. It used to occur occasionally every few weeks, but lately it seems to happen more often—even when the system isn’t under heavy load. I’ve updated the drivers, adjusted the fan curve, and cleared dust from my PC, yet the issue persists. Previously, it would only happen during intense tasks, but now it occurs randomly, even at low loads. When the fans reach their maximum speed, they briefly spike to 3900 RPM before dropping back down. I have an Intel i9-9900K on a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi board, and my GPU runs smoothly with ample cooling, while my CPU is fine. This problem is exclusive to my GPU. I’m looking for advice to resolve this. Thank you.
You can turn off the app using a custom fan curve and let it rely on the standard curve provided by Nvidia. It should begin fans at 60 degrees and continue until it reaches 40 degrees. If it achieves that then the issue is likely not from the app's custom settings.
I aim to keep my speeds below 1600rpm. Suggest lowering the GPU voltage. I’m currently at 160W with a 3070, compared to 120W with a 3060, while you’re likely around 215W. It’s simple. I’d love to view both graphs showing GPU temperatures versus fan speed. (I’m not alone in this.) Many recommend FanControl for managing all fans—it offers full control. How’s the airflow? Check the app settings to confirm the Nvidia default temperature. Adjust the fan curves to match the standard range, which typically stays between 60–70°C under load. If the cap was previously at 67°C, reverting to the default should help stabilize it around 77–78°C.
Nvidia's default fan settings are usually set in the driver, so unless an app changes them, they stay active. Over time, cooling performance drops. Thermal paste may dry out, and dust can clog air filters. If temperatures exceed around 80°C, the system will throttle to protect itself. You might clean the PC and find instructions for applying fresh thermal paste if you choose to do it yourself. When using compressed air, avoid spinning the fans during operation.
I attempted to capture what was occurring, but I’m still trying to identify the reason. Prior to this video, I removed the fan software and reinstalled the Nvidia drivers. Perhaps the issue lies with the thermal paste, a defective sensor, or another factor.

I recently faced problems with my CPU fan and fancontrol. It turned out some leftover Asus software was interfering with the control, leading to the issue. Even after uninstalling everything, I had to reinstall and then completely remove it. Be sure to fully eliminate the old software before trying to troubleshoot further.
