GPU consumes high power and its clock speed remains fixed at 300 MHz?
Hi all,
my GPU isn't working well in games (20 fps).
System: Alienware M15 R2 with 2070 Max q
I see the clock stuck at 300 MHz and the board power draw is about 250 W when idle (GPU-Z).
Idle temperature is 55°C.
The clock doesn't change when under load or during games.
Any suggestions on how to fix it?
I had the CPU and GPU swapped last week as a first try.
I uninstalled drivers with DDU in safe mode and installed an older Nvidia driver (576.88), but nothing worked.
I'm pretty sure the dedicated GPU is being used under load, but the MHz don't increase.
I'm confused because I don't know if my GPU is failing or if it's a driver/Windows problem.

What operating system are you using? Initially, verify if the laptop requires any BIOS updates. Next, ensure your OS is current. I attempted to uninstall drivers using DDU in safe mode and installed an older Nvidia driver (576.88), but it didn’t help. Best practice would be to run DDU in Safe Mode to eliminate all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, and Nvidia) and then install the newest GPU driver from Nvidia’s support site via an elevated command, such as right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as Administrator (assuming Windows OS). Running Windows 10, no updates left!
Just reinstalled the newest BIOS, nothing like that.
