Got some problems with my Intel Ethernet card model 1225-V that are making things hard to work on this computer.
I just swapped out my motherboard for an Asus Z690 Tuf Gaming Wifi d4. The LAN card works fine, but it won't connect to a tested cable or router. I still have to use the WiFi connection right now. After hours of searching and fixing things like updating BIOS and drivers, I finally got connected by turning down the LAN speed to 10 Mbps—either full or half duplex. Of course, that's pretty slow. When I get home, I might try putting a switch between the router and my PC to see if that helps. From what I know, this adapter has had problems on many motherboards, but I've never found a fix so far. I really don't want to take this motherboard back and wipe it all clean again. Any help or tips would be amazing thanks! Asus Z690 Tuf Gaming Wifi D4 with Intel 12700K, Radeon RX 6750 XT, and an Intel 1225-V network adapter.
All those 2.5G adapters had problems back when, but they've mostly been fixed now. The real issue wasn't that the ports wouldn't connect fast enough; it was just bad performance because of poor cables. You probably have fake ones or cheap quality ones. Those ports are super sensitive to low-quality wires. You don't need fancy gear, even 2.5G works on Cat5e with shorter runs. It will slow down if you use a standard cable instead. Just check your stuff. Make sure it's pure copper and has the right wire size of 22 or 24 gauge. There are tons of that flat thing with tiny wires, which aren't enough for real ethernet.
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm not sure why this is happening. I tried several patch cables and even tested them on my laptop. The problem seems linked to the NIC. To fix this, I will grab some cat6 ethernet cable from work and make a new one when I get home. My old cables actually test fine with an ethernet tester right now. It's just weird that the NIC finds the connection at 10 Mbps, but shows no link speed for anything else.
I put a switch between my modem/router and PC, so now it connects at any speed. Going to get ATT sending me a new router soon and see if that fixes it. A really annoying problem to say the least, but at least I don't have to take back the motherboard and reinstall everything from scratch.
