Got a brand new laptop, but Windows didn't close up when I turned it off.
I used to have a new Lenovo IdeaPad for about a week and today it takes longer to turn on than usual. Every time I start my computer after most of the booting finishes, Windows says something like "was not properly shut down." This happened in a reliability history file. I remember this before when I bought another Lenovo on Windows 11 last year but it didn't happen so many times in one day - maybe just once or twice. Should I take this laptop back? Everything looks fine with the device because it turns off when I click "shutdown" from the start menu. I am a bit confused and need some advice. Thanks!
which lenovo laptop is it? Have you run their driver updater to see if you are up to date? what does it show if you click the View technical details screen? I wonder what windows update failed, others after it seem to work okay I hate that gameinput thing. It happens on my pc too every day
It's the IdeaPad Slim 5. Sure, everything is current now. Something started happening all of a sudden last night while I was fine before that. The update that didn't work got installed right away after I tried again. When I click on technical details, it says this: The old system shut down at 3:41 PM on November 22, 2023, and it wasn't planned. Thanks.
Why do you stare in there after every restart? I hate that place too. You think the PC works fine, but then you check and see all those red dots. Oh yeah, my update failed like yours did. But Windows can't spot the problem on my screen. So that display is useless to me. Still, 10 (no, not Windows 10) keeps working for me. Unless you're telling me when the PC shuts down instead of just hanging there, then I'll ignore it.
you could look in Event Viewer at the time just before the previous shutdown when that error happened, to see if any clues come out. Windows 10 used to show that if fast startup was turned on but that should be off on Win 11 if you boot off an NVMe or SSD.
Thanks, but no new info here. I didn't change the quick start on my NVMe, so it probably turns on by itself.
Go ahead and find your control panel. Look for the big picture button and pick "power options." Then check what the power switch does if it's on. If you have an NVMe drive next to a blue or yellow shield icon, click "Change setting" when those features aren't working. Make sure "Turn on fast startup" is unchecked, then hit save and close everything.
