I've been searching the web for a solid survival game similar to the long dark, anyone have any suggestions?

Good luck in your search. You've been looking for something you really like, but it's been a long time without finding what you're after.

I really like both PC and board games: This War Of Mine... it's quite depressing and sad... and the mood is really intense.

Here are some of your top choices:
35MM
7 Days to Die
Be cautious—this game can consume a lot of your free time. It offers more activities than Minecraft.
ARK Survival Evolved
DESOLATE
The Forest
Green Hell
Kholat
Kona
Raft
Stranded Deep
Subnautica
The Wild Eight
