Remains costly but offers affordable options. I can purchase 32GB kits for significantly less than their market price. For example, a couple of M378A2K43DB1 16GB dual-sided sticks or better yet, some double-sided revs would work well. Alternatively, buying four identical sticks and maximizing their performance brings you close to the target. Just keep in mind I’m quite flexible with using cheaper components.
I notice improvements from crossflashing (p5q). Mostly it offers improved overclocking and wider voltage options on BIOS-cripplid boards. You won’t be able to destroy a board with crossflashing except in rare cases like g31m-vs → p5k pro, which is the outlier. I can run a p8z77m bios on an asus h61m-d by swapping the chipset and adding a k CPU. Regarding hm67 stencils, they work with 61/67/68 chipsets—no need to order custom metal 3D printed ones unless you want better results.
