Hey everyone, it's puzzling why gog.com doesn't offer a CD-Key for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I purchased the game on GOG last week due to their great price and 20% discount for fans of The Witcher 1 and 2. Now I need to activate it on Steam and Origin, but they’ve denied me a CD-Key since it’s not a multiplayer title. They claim it’s unnecessary because they provide game keys for single-player games, yet here I am without one. Can they change their policy? Also, I’m curious if there’s a downloadable client available for GOG—since I can’t find a link to GOG Galaxy.
They likely have an agreement with GoG, allowing people to purchase it without DRM restrictions.
GOG distributing a Steam key doesn’t make much sense. The main goal of GOG is to avoid DRM restrictions, so giving codes for Steam would feel odd. It would also be pointless to share codes for another company’s service. You can still download games directly from your browser or use GOG’s download manager, and if you need them on Steam, you can mark them as non-steam.
GOG is controlled by CD Project RED, and while I don’t mind the DRM, it’s unclear if they produce CD-Keys.
I thought so too, since Steam and Origin supply codes for launching the titles elsewhere, and these games earn points on certain platforms like http://www.galagiveaways.com/
The CD keys focus on DRM, which is my main reason for choosing GOG over other platforms.
The main goal is to avoid being locked into Steam or Origin, so these platforms wouldn’t even offer a CD-Key when there’s nothing connected to them or any other online service.
Sure thing. A boxed summary would include a CD key to use on Stea, Origin, and GOG, wouldn't it?
