The GOG service is currently operating, and you're finding Witcher 3 at a much lower price. People's download speeds vary, but it seems to perform similarly to Uplay. The DRM-free version is particularly appealing to you.

My current download rate is around 6 MB/s, which matches my maximum speed on GOG.

It feels similar to UPLAY, but the main issue is DRM with GOG. The download speeds are the same as Steam, and the new Galaxy client performs well. It also lets you manage game libraries easily and back up your games. I plan to keep getting more titles from GOG unless they need Steam, UPLAY, or original releases. If DRM becomes free, I’ll switch over.

GOG offers content without DRM restrictions, so no client installation is required. The download speeds are excellent. Additionally, creators benefit more because they retain ownership of the GOG platform.

It can be DRM-free because developers and platforms choose not to use restrictive digital controls. Copyrights and rights aren’t solely controlled by game creators; users also play a role in how content is accessed and shared.

It's noted on the second line but it's 100% optional—no need to use it. I'm now saving my game installs to an extra hard drive so I always have copies, regardless of issues. Games needing DRM aren't available on GOG, and not every title is present.

GOG.com is controlled by CD Projekt red, which maintains a firm stance against DRM, aligning with the company's recent support from CDPR.

I was talking about uplay and its poor download speeds. It keeps changing.
