GIGABYTE Z97-D3H-CF supports NVMe standard 3.0.
Hello, I'm looking into a new boot drive and considering whether an NVMe option would be beneficial due to its lower latency and better performance. I need to know which NVMe standard my GIGABYTE Z97-D3H-CF supports. On their website it mentions it, but the product details don't specify the PCIe lanes—could it be Gen 3 x2 or Gen 2 x4? Thanks for your assistance!
They utilize four PCIe lanes for each NVMe card, with models 2242, 2260, and 2280 available in three distinct sizes. Your motherboard supports PCIe 3.0.
You can buy a PCIe 4.0 card and it will function at 3.0 performance levels
It supports PCIe 2.0 because it connects to the Z97 chipset, which only offers PCIe 2.0. Likely it uses just two lanes despite the 10Gb advertised speed, as seen on previous Asus Z97 boards.
Apologies for the confusion, but the x16 slot on the motherboard actually uses PCIe Gen 3. Regarding the chipset, it may only support Gen 2 because older chipsets are designed to work with lower-speed interfaces.
