Your Z97X-Gaming 5 works perfectly, but it turns off two of the SATA ports or SATA Express connections. Nothing relies on those ports.

I've used a random SKHynix SATA disk and a Team MP33 in the same setup, and the outcomes were identical.

Team MP33 was indeed bootable. Its performance was faster than SATA drives.

It started up just fine. The speed change was minimal since it's running on my own server with a basic Windows 10 setup. Still, it's running Haswell and boots up quickly—though it feels surprisingly fast for such a simple system. Even now that it's using the standard Crucial BX500 2.5" drive, it performs much better than what you'd expect on my profile, which is quite disappointing.
