Right now my Crucial Ballistix 2x16GB setup is using about 50-80% of its capacity. It doesn’t run XMP; it always operates at the highest JEDEC speed the RAM allows, which is 2.666 GHz. I’m thinking about upgrading to a 128GB configuration (four 32GB modules) soon. However, checking the Memory QVL shows that only about half of the memory slots support four sticks, and they’re completely out of stock both in stores and online. I’m also unsure if this list is full—some tests aren’t done. The design memory I’m considering is the one I’m evaluating for compatibility, but I’m puzzled whether it can handle four sticks or just two. The support details only mention two 32GB modules, not four. I’ve checked Z4/590 compatibility and it supports either two or four sticks, but it struggles with four sticks even when running XMP—though I’m not using XMP here. I stick to the kit’s JEDEC speed setting.
This might be the only testing they performed. The 32 gig kit could have never been thoroughly evaluated. QVL was significant for zen1, but it seems less relevant for zen+ and not worth focusing on for zen2. I’m unsure about the status of versions 3 and 4. It hasn’t been a priority for Intel for a while. Being sold out doesn’t necessarily confirm production, and it might simply mean they no longer have stock or are discontinued. I recommend reaching out to the manufacturer for more details.
There are nearly 70 RAM kits available, featuring a 32GB density stick, designed to fit all four slots. It seems these products are no longer in production or have been replaced by newer models. I suspect the 8th and 9th generation Intel CPUs might have been improved, possibly in the 10th generation. Given Intel's history, I’m hopeful these upgrades will work smoothly even with 4x32GB configurations, though the Designare RAM kit only offers 2x32GB.
