I was setting up a new cooler, the Thermalright FC140, and had to take out the motherboard to replace the rear backplate bracket. While doing that, I checked the RGB settings on the board. It seems there were mismatched resistor values or something similar. The RGB boards connect via cables under plastic covers, which means you need to remove the rear VRM cooling plate. After taking out the RGB modules, I reinstalled the rear VRM plate. I put the board back onto the test bench and connected the power supply, then installed the new cooler. Now the board shows a post code of A2 but won’t boot. For storage, I only have two PCIe X4 NVMe drives. I re-seated the RAM and cleared the CMOS. The processor is an i9-11900KF. What’s happening?

You're wondering if the system paused? Checked for alternative post codes when no PCI devices were linked.

Yeah, with NVMes and GPU removed still post code A2. Yes, I waited a few minutes. And yes, I Googled it before posting. [EDIT] I managed to type wrong post code here earlier, A2 is the post code.

You're asking for confirmation. I'm not certain about all the specifics, but it seems your board might not have IDE connections.

Started up successfully. Code A2 appears once CMOS clears, so it won’t run until you decide to apply defaults. No video detected since the system seems to reject wildcat Intel GPUs after a reset; this should resolve once defaults are loaded. I switched to a less demanding GPU and got video again, which helped clarify the correct steps after resetting the CMOS. Frustrating.

Even worse, the displayport failed to function, while DVI operated correctly. A few important notes here.
