Gigabyte z390 Aorus Pro uses USB-C port with reduced performance
My motherboard model is from the Gigabyte site you shared. When connecting an USB NVMe drive via regular USB 3.0 ports, speeds reach over 400MB per second as shown in the image. However, using the USB-C port on the back panel with the same drive gives only about 40MB per second, regardless of the cable used—even the one that came with the iPad Pro 3rd generation. I've installed the newest drivers and searched online but haven't found a fix.
Maybe the port you're referring to is a C-type connector on your motherboard.
As per the specification sheet, the device should feature one USB Type-C™ connector supporting USB 3.1 Gen 2 on the rear panel.
I think most USB-C to USB-C cables I found are likely USB 2.0, but the iPad Pro 3rd gen USB-C cable might still be USB 2.0. It looks like Apple probably didn’t list its specs clearly, which seems odd given its price. I’m planning to order an Amazon Basics USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable and double-check before purchasing.
