Hey there, four weeks back I moved away from Apple team and started building my own PC. Setting it up was straightforward, thanks to YouTube and some basics I picked up from my dad’s early 2000s days. My build: motherboard MB: Rog Strix X570-E, CPU AMD Ryzen 9 3900X (original cooler), GPU Gigabyte 2070S Gaming OC 3X white, RAM 2x G.Skill Trident Z 3600MHz, 8GB SSD, M.2 Corsair 960GB, PSU Corsair RM850x, case NZXT H510i. Four days ago my Gigabyte RTX 2070 started spinning up with fans whirring really fast, even though temps stayed under 35°C (95°F). I didn’t install any software that could hurt the GPU except for the Nvidia drivers until it actually booted. After a clean driver reset, changing the fan speed with MSI Afterburner helped little. Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks! J.D. P.S.: Sorry for the spelling mix-ups—I’m from Switzerland and was in English class by the window.

The device functioned properly initially but began acting unexpectedly after a short period. There were recent modifications made prior to the issue appearing. Additional details about the circumstances would be helpful.

After assembling the machine, I installed all the drivers, Steam, a few games, Adobe tools, Discord, Nvidia experience, NZXT Cam for RGB and case fans, Armoury Crate, and that should be complete. I only adjusted the BIOS settings to enable DOCP for the RAM. These updates and installations were completed during the first week after putting everything together. This change in behavior began suddenly, and nothing had been modified immediately before it started.

There needed to be a shift. Machines don’t feel or think. It might have been a software patch, so the change wasn’t your doing.

Discovered a Nvidia driver update 5 days back. Chose the older version instead of the latest—it works better now but isn’t ideal yet. The fans are running normally until they hit a certain heat level. Once the GPU hits about 60 °C (140°F), the fans spin very fast, which matches what I’d expect if temperatures rise. Despite adjusting fancurve via Gigabyte AORUS and MSI Afterburner, nothing changed. (Yes, I ran both with admin rights.) It’s unusual that HWMonitor doesn’t display fan RPM.

After reviewing this again, it seems the fan curve was adjusted. Previously, I addressed overload by adding larger fans. Now I’m using a 6800xt, removing the shroud and swapping three fans for two 140mm case fans that deliver similar airflow but are much quieter.
