Hello, I just saw a YouTube review from PC Builder discussing user-built PCs. He mentioned that the Gigabyte B550M DS3H struggles with high-core CPU configurations. I’m trying to figure out if six cores is still considered sufficient today and whether this concern is valid. The motherboard has already arrived at my local store, just payment left. I’m curious about the Gigabyte B650M DS3H (rev 1.0) compatibility with a Ryzen 5 7600X. Also, will the board support the CPU without any updates? I haven’t updated BIOS before, so I’m unsure about the process. Edited February 3, 2023 by Elans

From a Ryzen perspective, performance is actually quite modest. The chips with the most cores that this board supports are the 12 and 16 core models. This has been a consistent challenge for lower-end boards over many years. While VRMs have improved, power delivery remains a concern, especially for high-end CPUs. The 7600X isn’t the main worry here—HWUnboxed reports memory problems, particularly with DDR5 6000 and even DDR5 5600 requiring extra effort. Unless you're extremely budget-conscious, I wouldn’t suggest this board.

6 cores are now seen as very basic. The 7600X should work well. I wouldn't go for something like the 7950X.

CPU operates smoothly without issues, but you might need to hold off for the HUB's B650 roundup. Early tests suggested a challenge in getting DDR5-6000 working on the DS3H, as reported on Twitter this week. This should be an interesting video. Much more thrilling than the X670 demo...

They didn’t offer a 2x8GB DDR5-6000 option, so I chose the 2x8GB DDR5-5600 version. Could running at that speed cause any problems?

According to common reports, the IIRC 5600 is unreliable—may work under certain adjustments but probably won’t activate EXPO. You’ll likely need tuning, and it probably won’t perform as well on a higher-end model like the B650M Aorus Elite AX.
