Hey all! I'm building my first PC and have chosen the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 as my CPU. I've read that the R5 3600 works best with 3600mHz RAM, so I'm planning to use a Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3600mHz 2x8 kit. However, the motherboard that best suits my budget and needs, the Gigabyte B450M DS3H, apparently only officially supports up to 3200mHz, but can manage 3466mHz. I've been told that the mobo automatically downclocks 3600mHz sticks to 3466mHz. However, I can also use the 3200mHz kit and overclock it to 3466mHz, but I cannot find any good deals on a 3200mHz kit, only 3000mHz kits. I can possibly get the 3000mHz kit and overclock it to 3200mHz-ish, but I don't exactly want to overclock anything as I don't feel confident and lack the experience. So what's the best decision I can make: buy the 3600mHz kit and just have it downclocked by the mobo or buy the 3000mhHz kit and just live with it? The two kits have only about 10$ difference, but I'm worried about possible incompatibility. I also don't want to buy a better mobo as the Gigabyte is bundled with the R5 3600 :^(((( Thanks all! Most B450 motherboards don't support high-frequency memory. The DS3H can handle 3000 or 3200 without significant performance loss. For those who want more, the 3600 kit is available for purchase and offers an opportunity to try overclocking. The extra $10 is a small price to pay if you see results.

Based on my observations, Gigabyte B450 boards manage faster RAM speeds well, though 3600MHz seems to be the maximum. My B450 Gaming X is working smoothly with my 3466MHz CL16 kit, and I also have a DS3H that functions properly there.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies! Big GrinD I’m leaning toward the 3000mHz kit to invest in higher-quality peripherals. It seems like it won’t cause as much performance loss as I initially thought. Appreciate the help!
