Hello everyone, I recently assembled my desktop and everything seemed normal. However, while browsing the internet, performance dropped significantly—ping reaching up to 500 for a few seconds every ten seconds. I've attached a ping meter image for reference. I attempted driver updates, removed the antenna, reinstalled BIOS, but nothing resolved the issue. Connecting via USB or Ethernet works perfectly, unlike my laptop and phone in the same room. I even tried setting my phone as a hotspot near the antenna, which produced the same result. Any suggestions on what might be causing this problem would be appreciated. Otherwise, I might need to return it. EDIT v1: Amazon refunded the motherboard while I retained it.

It seems like there might be an issue with the Wi-Fi connection. Please check your setup or contact support.

You just received a refund for the motherboard, so you can keep it. Your thoughts on whether a new network card would work are reasonable. Thanks for asking!

The problem you’re facing seems to be a weak Wi-Fi connection affected by interference. This leads to extra work in error correction and lost data, resulting in higher ping. The issue might stem from your location or the antennas involved. For instance, if your device’s back and antenna face a wall, it can hurt performance. Also, if the access point is near your PC’s front, it could be problematic. Even after receiving a refund, try moving your device to see if it improves things. Check which antennas came with your board and consider using ones with cables—often called "shark fin" antennas—that fit better for reception. Avoid using Wi-Fi for demanding tasks like gaming; instead, use an Ethernet cable for optimal speed. If the motherboard has a fault, replacing the network card might resolve the problem.

I positioned the antenna correctly in front of the computer, facing the door behind me where the router is located. For testing, I placed my phone about 50 cm from the end of the "shark fin antennas" and observed the same pattern. It seems it might be related to my phone. I then tested with my laptop next to me, connecting it to the phone without issues. This indicates the issue likely comes from the Wi-Fi card on the board. I further removed the antenna and placed my phone at the back of the case, but the same problem persisted. This suggests a possible interference or blockage from the router. I considered drilling a hole in the wall (about 20 cm thick) to improve connectivity, though I prefer Ethernet for stability.

This seems like a joke about fixing a Wi-Fi issue with a card. If the problem is a hardware defect, a Wi-Fi card might work around it.

Up until now, yes. I’m considering that if Wi-Fi isn’t just the problem, I might need to purchase another motherboard. That means I won’t choose a Wi-Fi setup and will keep my network card.

I've faced the same issue before. My fix was to purchase a Wi-Fi extender and connect an Ethernet cable straight to the motherboard.
