Hello everyone, I'm working on updating the office space of my parents. We're using the same router, and I considered moving to a 10Gbps network. However, I'm unsure if it's really needed. Our current plan offers 100Mbit upload and 40Mbit download through Telekom. The router is a FritzBox 7590 with just four 1Gbit connections. I plan to run glass fiber from the attic to link two 10Gbps switches. In my view, this setup should prevent saturation from the two PCs and the phone system. On the other hand, the switch in my room only connects at 1Gbit to the router. My main concern is whether a Gigabit connection can be overwhelmed by two PCs browsing and two IP calls. If that happens, would a 10Gb link make a difference given the router's capacity? Thanks a lot for your attention.

10G isn't needed for your scenario. It would cost a lot of money.

Consider your statement carefully. Your ISP plan is 100/40. Gigabit equals 1000. Unless you're sending large files to a local server, upgrading to 10G won't make a difference.

Thank you for your prompt responses. I'm setting aside funds for a 10G network project.
