You're lucky to have more than one IP from the ISP, but nowadays you usually need to pay extra unless you upgrade. That's a big deal. Some ISPs actually sell standalone modems, and I'm sure Charter or Spectrum does too. You can also purchase your own. Right now my setup is the SB6141 on my desk. Most ISPs offer a gateway, but not all of them do. Often with cable providers using DOCSIS, you can get a pure modem without problems. Arris, Motorola, and Netgear are among the top three DOCSIS cable modem makers, offering both pure modems and gateway models.
