I plan to move to a mesh network setup... using TP-Link Deco. Right now I have Fios with its modem. My goal is to create an independent Wi-Fi for the apartment while keeping my home on the mesh system (see diagram). I need to configure the apartment to have its own network without interfering with mine, and also allow Ethernet connections if required. There’s a cat wire going underground to the apartment that connects to a router now. If power fails or something goes wrong, the house might lose Wi-Fi until the apartment’s router fully restarts.
There might be only one router, which could affect compatibility. Some routers allow a guest network, but I haven’t used it myself, so I’m unsure how it changes their network or security settings. If you need more control than a guest network, you’ll have to add another router. Then connect the mesh devices to the desired router, making sure the router is secured so they can’t simply connect to your LAN via the WAN cable. I don’t know the operating frequency of mesh devices, but using different channels for your mesh and apartments might reduce interference.
