Hi, I'm having trouble logging into my PC and seeing a black screen with a cursor. I've tried several fixes: rebooting multiple times, swapping the monitor cable connections, checking Task Manager, and using the Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B to wake the display. Anyone have suggestions?

So you are able to BOOT into Windows every time? If the computer DOES NOT get into Windows, then I would check if the HDD is being detected in the BIOS. Otherwise, it could be a HDD or HDD power/data cable issue. If you see a blinking cursor, then your graphics card is outputting a signal... What are the your COMPLETE system specifications (e.g. CPU, motherboard, power supply, etc) ?

It’s running Windows 10. Restarting brings me back to the login screen. After logging in, I encounter a black screen with a cursor. This issue began after my dad installed an update. I don’t have all the details yet, but this description matches what you’re experiencing.

The black screen and cursor in Command Prompt appear in Windows, not necessarily the entire monitor. The OS might be corrupted from an update, and it could be resolved by using a Windows recovery tool from a bootable USB or CD.
