You currently use a Vodafone connection and pay for 500 downloads. You're considering getting a new modem, as your Wi-Fi 6 router is already better, but you're unsure whether you need a device with 1Gbps networking or just a budget-friendly option that works in modem-only mode.

Purchasing your own modem isn’t always necessary since your ISP may already provide one. However, depending on how your ISP is configured, installing your own modem can involve a tricky process that doesn’t improve speed, so make sure to verify it before making a purchase.

they don’t offer it either, but it’s easy to improve. I’m just checking if I can find a used model without losing performance, or if I should look for something that supports 500Mbps.

Modems are designed for specific internet services. I’m not familiar with xDSL modems, but Docsis cable modems have performance ratings. You should compare the cable provider’s speed limits rather than the modem manufacturer’s numbers, since the latter uses a theoretical value while the former knows the actual network capabilities.
