Hey everyone. My father-in-law is shifting from a city lifestyle to a countryside one soon. I was asked to search for internet options for his new home... good news. Unfortunately, only satellite coverage is available in his area, so we won’t go that route. I’ve previously used cradlepoints for a cellular plan and plan to try that again. The issue is, I set them up but never purchased or financed the SIM cards needed. I’m looking for good deals, recommendations on who to contact, and tips to avoid any surprises. My main activities will be browsing Facebook and playing some light games like Minecraft, with a business opportunity expected in about a year. Thanks ahead!

I don't specify the location—city, province, or country.

Angola Indiana, US. I was mainly seeking advice and shortcuts to reach providers. It wasn’t about a single person or a direct line, but rather a general guide so I could connect with several. I wasn’t sure if terms like “data only” or “rural cellular internet” would help me find the right contact quickly instead of wasting time.

Not sure if it's nearby. However, TMobile provides unlimited 4G LTE. You can get up to 50 Mbps for around $50 per month. They keep sending me ads about it, hehe.

If I had purchased a prepaid phone with unlimited data and used apps that avoid the built-in hotspot, it would prevent the provider from tracking your hotspot usage. This could bypass data limits and potentially trigger a fine if you exceed the allowed amount. A Mi-Fi or jet pack might work, though they’d be expensive. DSL could also be an option if the phone has a landline connection.

LTE would perform better unfortunately. Often DSL in such locations reaches a maximum of 3Mbps.

quicker yes, but maybe less consistent and dependable than the DSL version of the signal. I'm just offering it as an alternative.

Don't consider DSL as an alternative. The sole "residential" choice is satellite. @ausham This is the main reliability concern I've faced. I'd prefer redundant options over satellite fees. You could also upgrade the antenna to address most issues.

Start by identifying LTE providers near you. Determine which offers the strongest signal to your home. Verizon is likely a top choice, but it’s worth checking others. Also look for any local WISP networks in the area.
