Hello, I haven't been playing much lately. Used to experiment more with this stuff. Now I'm aiming for a fairly gentle overclock. I acquired a K chip that claims to run at "Free" MHz, just to speed up certain tasks without being a hardcore gamer. I'm using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility or BIOS. Both seem to do similar things. I've been studying a lot and trying not to overlook any easy FAQ point. Please let me know if that's unrealistic. I experimented by changing the multiplier to 44 or 45 and manually adjusting voltage. Around 1.25 seemed right, then I applied it. After that, in BIOS I saw the core voltage rise to a max of 1.458, according to the HW mount. The adaptive core voltage mode is set to default. I think it's not perfect, but it looks like something's off. I quickly switched it back to the stock setting. Why does it spike so high if I set it to 1.25? Is the HW monitor not functioning with this chip? According to that AndTech article, I should be able to hit 1.25V for 4.4. That seems reasonable, but why does the fluctuation get so extreme? I want stability and reliability, but I don't think a 200-300MHz difference will impact me much if I keep temps under control. My aim is to stay below 75°C. So far, my build is solid, so I'm not worried about spending hours troubleshooting. I've read several similar discussions, but still can't find the answer I expected. If I'm stuck, I wouldn't want to lose too much sleep over this system if it runs fast. I paid extra for this and hoped to get a 5-10% boost. Thank you in advance for any help.
