Are they still available for purchase? I’m unsure about the upgrades, the intended use, or whether you already own the latest model. It’s unlikely anyone would buy 13th and 14th generation Intel right now. Besides the possible overheating problems, their performance was poor even before those issues. Not only were they not strong CPUs, but they also had limited features. You might want to opt for the next generation from Intel or AMD. Intel models only offer eight cores, which are often ineffective in professional settings. It seems these chips haven’t reached end-of-life yet—many are likely being sold cheaply to companies like Dell or HP to unsuspecting buyers who bought them years ago. Ironically, I have an Intel Core i9-14900K in my work PC (or keeping my old 2017 setup). I doubt they’re worth much value, but I wouldn’t risk my money on them.
They are still being produced and in general still work well. plenty of reason to still buy 13th/14th gen today. e cores are very useful.
The issue centered on the voltage applied for single-core boost. i7/i9 can push up to 1.6V to reach 6GHz, but the latest microcode now blocks anything above 1.55V. To prevent this, you’d turn off single-core boost entirely, tighten the voltage window, lower overall voltage, cut power consumption, and maintain performance within the same power budget.
