I rely heavily on CCleaner, which makes me unaffected by this issue. On my netbook with a 120GB SSD, I consistently avoid it because I always run updates using Ubuntu Tweak to eliminate all problems.

They simply deleted the original backups created during updates. This helps when you need to remove an update if something goes wrong.
