Hello! I'm trying to build a virtual machine from an older XP(SP3 32bit) disk, and I ran into an issue with VMware vCenter Converter. The error message says it can't create a VSS snapshot of the source volume. I've already managed this on Windows 7, but I'm not sure how to proceed with XP. Any suggestions or alternative approaches would be appreciated. Thanks!

You're using either Disk2vhd on Windows or dd on Linux to create an image, then you'll need to boot from that image to set up the virtual machine.

You're working with Oracle Virtual Box and encountering an issue with Disk2vhd. It appears to require Windows Vista or later, even though you haven't tested it on Windows XP.

Yes, you can connect the HDD from the XP machine to another system and capture an image of it through the appropriate interface.

Let me help you figure that out. Could you share more details about what you're trying to do? That way I can suggest the best program for your needs.

Disk2vhd is irrelevant; any method functions adequately in this case.
