I enjoy exploring various Linux distributions occasionally to observe updates and determine if they offer better value than Windows. Recently, I switched from Ubuntu 23.10 to UbuntuDDE Remix 23.04 after using the older version. The Deepin Desktop Environment appeals to me, but privacy issues limit my use of the full OS. Switching between environments isn’t always smooth—I struggle with changing or installing different desktop settings on the base system. After some research, I’m considering whether it’s wiser to install Kubuntu 23.10 and then add DDE on top instead. There’s no clear answer, but it seems the UbuntuDDE community takes time to release updates, and I worry they might move past a 23.10 build before supporting a newer version. They did showcase a 22.04 build based on the LTS release, though it appeared less polished and faced more user complaints compared to the latest. What’s your perspective?

Deepin performs exceptionally well. I hope it functions correctly on Arch, which is what I’m using. It’s a good idea to try Kubuntu 23.10 and install Deepin on top, since that would provide newer software updates and extended support.

If you need it quickly, consider using the mainline Ubuntu and add the DE on top. It's not crucial to always run the very latest version, particularly with a fixed release setup. For important needs, rolling releases might be preferable. In my experience, I'd choose an LTS version if I were installing Ubuntu or a similar distribution.
