With full admiration for some experienced members, we all began without any prior knowledge. Why not offer him an opportunity? Andy51100, please consult a manual like this one so you're fully informed before adjusting settings: Gain as much understanding as possible before making any changes! Still, 1200MHz is a solid starting point. Many chips are already factory-optimized to that frequency. Keep in mind, though, each card behaves uniquely—no guaranteed overclock results. I didn’t intend to cause any offense! The key takeaway is that overclocking demands serious attention. If you’re not clear on the fundamentals (since every chip differs...

When in doubt, avoid pushing it too hard.

Basroil:
To nothing. If you must ask, don't overclock at all.
In my view, that's the only response fitting your knowledge here.

Despite the experience of some seasoned members, we all began from a place of complete ignorance. Why not offer him an opportunity? Andy51100, it would be wise to consult a resource like this before diving in: Take the time to learn as much as possible before adjusting sliders and turning knobs! Still, 1200MHz is a solid starting point. Many cards are already built to that speed. Keep in mind, however, that each card is unique, and no overclock can be assured. I hope this didn’t come across as insensitive!

With all due respect to a few experienced contributors, we all began without any prior knowledge. Why not offer him an opportunity? Andy51100, it would be wise to read this guide before diving in: Gain as much understanding as possible before adjusting sliders or knobs! Still, 1200MHz is a solid starting point. Many cards are already factory overclocked to that speed. Keep in mind, however, that each card is unique and no guaranteed safe overclock exists. I hope I haven’t caused any offense! The key takeaway is that overclocking shouldn’t be taken lightly. If you don’t grasp the fundamentals—every card behaves differently, there are risks involved, and there are no universal safe limits—you should avoid attempting it until you have a solid theoretical foundation. This applies to high-risk activities like skydiving, racing, or thermite welding. Once he starts thinking about what he can realistically expect his overclock to achieve, rather than just picking a number, he might be better prepared to try.

basroil's argument is clear, your approach to handling it was also accurate. Pointing to research supports this view; in my opinion, it would be irresponsible to suggest simply entering this as the OC and expecting a positive outcome. We truly don't understand all the variables involved. However, this question is frequently raised: what are the conditions for my XYZ to succeed as the OC?
