I possess information about your ASUS TUF X470 Plus gaming board with a faulty BIOS. I've reviewed all available documentation and intend to try manual recovery. The CH341a appears to be a viable option, and I'm seeking advice or insights. Any guidance on locating the chip or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Usually the 8-pinned unit located southwest of the CPU socket works best. Just check the chip’s part number on its top and search for the datasheet online. Yeah, @Somerandomtechyboi, this looks like a good match.

I was just called in. I don’t really know how to connect a SPI header when I first tried, because I bought those male-female DuPont jumpers without realizing you can use female-female pins. The rows of pins are on both sides of the programmer’s SPI port, which is on the left of the socket. It’s a 9-pin header that isn’t labeled, next to a chip about the same size and beside two 4-pin fan headers. For flashing, check the MOBIOS SPI pinout here. You’ll need one side of the programmer without a jumper and some female-female wires. You only need six wires for the 3.3V (SPI VCC), ground, MISO, MOSI, CS (data line), and CLK signals. If that fails, try connecting the SPI VCC to the two 5V pins on the programmer and the extra ground pin. If that doesn’t work, get a cheap heat gun, solder paste, flux, Kapton tape, and aluminum foil to rework the BIOS chip.

Personally, I don’t own a programmer for soldered BIOS chips, but I know others who do. The key is making sure the jumpers or connectors from the programmer are correctly positioned on the chip and connected to the programmer as needed for the specific chip you’re updating. The software itself is straightforward once you get the hang of it—after a while, it becomes second nature.
