I can afford to purchase the laptop at a low cost, as it aligns with my childhood aspirations. It would serve basic tasks like internet browsing, playing old games such as L4D2, and watching YouTube videos. The machine comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 and an Nvidia 9800m GTS. If I buy this device, I plan to upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB and install a budget SSD. Will this setup provide satisfactory performance for my needs?

As long as it works, I don't see why not.
Except that it might not last for much longer, after a decade of component aging and thermal cycling.
