When comparing games from 2010 and 2018, the differences are striking. Even then, performance gaps remain large. This is partly due to how technology operates—developers design games for older systems because most users have them. It's similar to how products gain popularity only after becoming mainstream in business or luxury sectors.
Issues with games jumping ahead in hardware mean they often miss out on new capabilities and usually aren't well optimized, similar to Crysis. Developers must prioritize a shared feature set that includes older options while still letting newer ones shine.
It slowed down a bit, not completely stopping, mainly due to the growth of mobile and indie titles. Real time ray tracing is expected to become a major advancement. No, there are still developers focusing on higher visual quality. Kingdom Come appears superior to Witcher 3 in most scenarios, with only a three-year gap between them.
