I'm not very familiar with modern games, but I think you can play them using well-made emulators. Also, based on your software options, you might experience better performance on Linux compared to Windows—Intel's Linux driver support is often superior in many situations, even though it doesn't always apply, because you don't need to install Intel drivers on Linux.
I've been using an i5-540m with a comparable iGPU for quite some time. Many older titles worked well, and most recent 2D games remain playable. What games are you interested in?
