My AMD Ryzen 5600H HP laptop works better without the power supply. When connected, game and program speeds drop significantly, but unplugged it runs at full capacity. For instance, max graphics in a game cause a huge slowdown when plugged, requiring lower settings to hit 60+ FPS. Unplugged performance is smooth right away. This issue began recently in April. I've owned this machine since early 2022 and am trying to figure out a fix.

Because the issue has evolved, look for factors that might shift over time. Start by ensuring a thorough clean to eliminate any dust in the cooling system. Remember that charging generates heat; using your laptop when it’s already hot can intensify the problem. This isn’t typical and could stem from dust accumulation or another similar cause. Also consider adjusting settings—visit Windows settings and review the power profiles of your device. The plugged-in profile should be set to Maximum Performance. When using battery power, a different profile might apply. Try transferring the battery profile to the plugged-in one and observe if it improves the situation.
