Has anyone here played Euro Truck Simulator 2 before? I was watching that video with a mod you’d need separately—it gives you the truck Transformers Optimus Prime, which looked really impressive in the clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftv3y1pixM0 I’m considering purchasing the game since I used to drive trucks professionally for over 16 years. Now that I’m disabled, I miss driving across the USA and would love a way to relive those good times. Regarding the setup, I think I’d need a decent steering wheel with gas, brake, and shifter controls because using just a keyboard and mouse would be challenging. I’m not sure what features are best or how much it should cost, especially since I’ve never used a gaming steering wheel before. For now, I can’t give a precise budget, but if it’s over $150, it might take a few months to save up depending on the price. In the meantime, I’d appreciate any recommendations for good steering wheel setups—ideally ones that work well for multiple games. If you have one, please share photos and your setup details.
I own the game, and I can confirm it isn't based in the USA. All driving scenes occur in Europe. The gameplay is decent, though it needs some improvement. I’d strongly suggest using a steering wheel, pedals, and a shifter for better control—it makes the experience much smoother.
I really enjoy this game. I spent more than 100 hours playing it. For me, it's calming to drive a truck across Europe while listening to podcasts. The level of realism is fairly high and can be customized. There are numerous mods available, and the developers keep improving by adding free content even two years after launch. Regarding downloadable content, there’s an expansion that includes Eastern Europe and another that adds heavy cargo. A Scandinavia version is also in development. I play it using a Xbox 360 controller. I attempted to use a regular wheel but didn’t like the experience. Playing ETS2 with a keyboard isn’t ideal due to the absence of an analog stick.
Thanks for the updates! The G27 looks great and will be the final kit once I save up. Appreciate the photo—Nexxus gives a clear idea of the setup. I’m curious about running it on my Samsung 65 LED 3DTV and wondering what mount you use for the steering wheel—whether it’s custom-made or purchased, and how stable it feels.
I frequently switch between my TV and monitor, each has its advantages. The TV offers more space, while monitors provide higher resolution, 3D capability, and triple displays. I also use a Track IR system for cockpit headtracking. This isn't the Rennsport model by name, but it seems similar. It's quite stable.
Thanks Nexxus, it seems you need to add this to your purchase list. You might also prefer sticking with your Samsung 23 LCD, which offers 1080p, until you find a better monitor someday. It’s performing well for gaming right now.
