Games using OpenGL or Vulkan cannot run properly in fullscreen mode.
Hello there. It has been a while since we last spoke. I recently needed to upgrade my PC because either the CPU or motherboard had failed, and I was wondering whether it was worth spending money to keep the old system running or if simply replacing those parts would be better. I ended up getting a Ryzen 7 3700X with an ASUS Prime X370-Pro, and I also have a Corsair MP600 1TB SSD to take full advantage of PCI Express 4 speeds. It's definitely overkill, but it still feels great.
What bothers me a bit more is the ongoing problem with games that use OpenGL or Vulkan. If I play titles like Forza Horizon 4, F1 2019, or Civilization VI—which run on DirectX—I have no trouble and everything runs smoothly. But games such as Minecraft, No Man's Sky, and Ion Fury behave differently.
The issue arises when loading those games in fullscreen: my second monitor turns black, then flashes whenever the main screen refreshes. The frame rate drops so much that even navigating menus becomes challenging. I’m not sure why or how it happens, but playing any game that relies on OpenGL or Vulkan is nearly impossible.
For a while, I managed to bypass this problem using Borderless Gaming, which let me play some of these games without issues. However, Ion Fury doesn’t work well with it, and I really want my classic shooter to function properly.
As for fixing the problem, I’ve tried uninstalling drivers multiple times via DDU, installing just the driver (without GeForce Experience), running games without drivers, and even testing MSI Afterburner to see if it helps. Still, nothing seems to work. I’ve also considered closing programs one by one to check if it’s a specific program, but beyond that, I’m not sure what else I can do except reinstalling Windows.
Any advice would be appreciated, and I’m happy to share any information I have. Thanks in advance.
